In memory of Otis.

A senior dog has a special place in our hearts.

There are some dogs, just like some people, who touch our lives in ways we could never of imagined. They sneak into your heart and before you know it you are utterly in love, or your life completely revolves around this animal that you had no idea could have that effect on you. And no matter how many shoes they destroy, or how much mess they make, at the end of the day the love you have for these sneaky creatures who steal your heart, is unmeasurable.

A matter of unconditional love.

Their love for you is always, always, unconditional. They forget how much we yell when we find the meal we’ve slaved over half eaten by them, or how angry we get when we find that book they’ve torn apart all over the floor. They only remember the love they’ve received and the affection they’ve been shown. It’s no wonder when they’re gone, a piece of us goes with them. Because no matter how hard we try, dogs just have us beaten as far as unconditional love goes.

Otis was no exception. He loved Marie with a love so incredibly strong. And Marie loved him twice as hard in return. He waited until Marie found someone who would love her and take care of her after he was gone. He waited until he knew Marie was going to be ok without him. And while Marie will forever have a piece of her heart missing, she will forever be a better person for having shared all the years she had with Otis.

Otis….You’re the biggest muppet on Earth. My old man. My rock. Over our years together, you’ve given me the gift of patience. Patience with you, patience with others, patience with myself. I don’t know what I will do without you. You’re always with me. You’re my buddy. Thank you, Muppet.
