“I don’t have to be perfect. All I have to do is show up and enjoy the messy, imperfect and beautiful journey of my life!”
~ Kerry Washington
Despite what we may think, Motherhood is not a competition. No two children are the same. And no two journeys should look the same. So why do we compare ourselves with other mothers? Some may play those games. I know I did for a short while, but soon enough you get tired. You start to feel like a failure. Constant comparisons with other moms is a sure way to end up in the doctor’s office, with a bottle of freshly prescribed Xanax in your hands! Relax. Breathe. The sooner you can understand this truth, the better you will be. I promise.
Natural delivery or scheduled c-section? Adoption. Breastfeed vs formula. Co-sleep. Pacifiers. Cry it out. Chicken nuggets for dinner. Home grown, organic vegetables. Immunizations. Homeschooling. Public education. Single mom. Married. Partners. Teen mom. No one women is more or less of a mother because of how she became a mother, or for the decisions she makes. There is no one way to do motherhood. As long as at the end of the day, you can look yourself in the eye and say, “I did the best I could do today. Tomorrow I get to start again.” Each and every women’s journey of motherhood, SHOULD NOT look the same. This is your journey. So take those Xanax if you need to. But give yourself a break. Try not to compare yourself to any other mother. Just be present and enjoy each and every messy step of your journey.
Welcome to my Motherhood Project. What began as a personal project through my Vivid & Brave group this past fall, has turned into a passion I wasn’t expecting to find. It took me so long to actually get this out to the public because I got in my own way. I thought I was the only one who would be interested in this. It was just me who had a passion to talk about being a mom and helping other mothers by sharing what worked and what didn’t work for each of my children. All of the surprises and best discoveries. Or I thought that moms would just be too busy being, well you know, moms! But, as it turns out, this is a topic close to a lot of women’s hearts. I have been overwhelmed with the amount of interest in being a part of this project. Therefore, I will be continuing this throughout the year on my personal Debbie Leanne page. Adding moms and their children, along with their words of wisdom for everyone to read and enjoy. If you are interested in being a part of this Motherhood Project, feel free to contact me so we can get together soon. Until then, So sit back, relax and enjoy the first addition of….
