Believe it or not, pigs are a common sight over here on Oahu. Wild bore run,…well, wild and can be seen almost all over the island. And sometimes, you just happen to come up on them when scouting out the location your client wants to hike for their upcoming photoshoot! Let’s just say, I was a tad scared. At first I thought I had mistakenly taken the wrong turn on the trail up to the ruins. Then, I may have panicked for a split second that I had mistakenly stumbled upon some kind of ritual that I had no business being any where near. But alas, it was simply a dead pig, smack bang in the middle of a hiking trail! Awesome!
Nonetheless, we made the most of our adventure a few days later when, we respectfully stepped around and over the dead pig (still laying there in the middle of the trail…not exactly sure where I thought it was going to go!) Hiking up to the Kamehameha Ruins was worth having to step around a dead pig. It is gorgeous up there! This little family loves to hike! And one of their favorite trails is hiking up to the ruins with their daughter and fur baby. So that’s where we went. It was muddy, damp and mosquito ridden, but it was gorgeous! I had never been here before (despite living in Hawaii for 9 years already!) so I was pleasantly surprised to see how easy it was to find. I was thrilled to have another location to bring my own family to for a quick day out some time soon, too.
From bamboo forests to old ruins, this hike provided us with so many beautiful places to stop and take photos. I am glad Rebecca and Patrick suggested it. Not only do they now have some incredible Wall Art to enjoy when they move back to the mainland, but I now have a new place I can bring my own family to visit, right here in our own back yard!
