“My contractions are pretty steady. I will keep you posted throughout the day.” And she did. Before I went to sleep that night I told her my phone was on and I would come to the hospital as soon as she called. This was a birth I wasn’t going to miss. And with Hawaii’s traffic, I wanted to make sure I had a good head’s up if he was about to be born. (Trust me, you don’t want to get stuck in morning traffic on Oahu if you are in a hurry anywhere!) Tameka had asked me to photograph her son’s birth shortly after she found out she was pregnant. I felt like I had known for as long as she had and anticipated this little man’s birth almost as much as she did.
But miss it I did! This little man did not want to wait once he decided it was time to be born. In fact, Mum barely made it to Tripler AMC before delivering. He was definitely in a hurry to get here and meet his family.
Needless to say, I met this little man when he was 7 days old, instead of at birth, but that’s ok. He was worth waiting for. As much as I hated missing out of photographing his birth, I loved being able to meet him in his home, surrounded by his big brother and sister and both parents. Having a photoshoot at home allows everyone to feel more relaxed. And relaxed was definitely a word I would use for Tameka. Going from 2 children to 3 isn’t always easy, but one thing I know about Tameka, she is patient. When we first met, she told me her plan was to have a peaceful pregnancy, birth and hopefully a peaceful little man. And she did. He was so calm and sweet. Tameka is handling being a mother of 3 beautifully.
You have a wonderful little man. I know the artwork we designed will allow you to remember these first weeks of his life forever. The album will be something he will be able to show his own children one day!
